Who are the members of the “three
generations of charter yacht owner/skippers”
whose treasure-trove of first-hand experience
will make your holiday on the water care-free
and thoroughly enjoyable?
The
person who will welcome you aboard M/S Paluko
and who will skipper the yacht on your cruise
is Murat Esim, a young captain with a wealth
of experience commensurate with the family’s
fine nautical traditions, as well as a university
degree in Business Administration which
he studied in English. He is the grandson
of the celebrated seafarer Paluko, for whom
M/S Paluko is named and whose name is forever
identified with the origins of the ‘Blue
Voyage’, the leisurely exploration
of the Turquoise Coast described in more
detail elsewhere on this website.
The Paluko story is a fascinating one, just
the type of tale waiting to be told when
at anchor on one of those balmy, star-studded
nights of your cruise. Not wishing to deny
you the pleasure of hearing the details
under such enchanting circumstances we will
acquaint you with only the outline of Paluko’s
past if you click here,
leaving the rest to be related by your captain
Murat, Paluko’s grandson.
Captain
Murat began his initiation into the ranks
of the select society of seafarers as a
humble 15-year-old deck hand aboard M/S
Kalyon, a boat in which his father held
part ownership. Starting with learning all
of the menial tasks necessary to keep the
boat shipshape and the passengers happy,
the young mariner was also taught the fine
arts of seamanship and acquired the hoard
of information known as ‘local knowledge’,
indispensable to a good skipper. In 1989
he transferred to M/S Guletta, a new yacht
commissioned by his father, and while serving
aboard this vessel he qualified as captain.
On your cruise you will also most likely
meet the middle member of the “three
generations”, Paluko’s son and
captain Murat’s father, Mazlum Esim.
He is also a qualified captain with much
experience, but he has turned the yacht’s
command over to his son while he practices
his other vocation, namely cooking. You
will thoroughly enjoy the delicious dishes
that he prepares from the freshest ingredients
that he chooses himself. Captain Mazlum’s
story is a tale of struggle that parallels
the metamorphosis of Bodrum from a small,
poor village to a bustling tourist resort
– perhaps you can prevail upon him
to relate it with assistance in translation
by his son.
M/S Paluko is a happy ship with a happy
crew that does everything to make the passengers
happy too. What more can one ask? |
